This project will create a new source of reliable and sustainable potable water for the residents of a community where potable water is currently unavailable through the installation of a solar powered water pump.

This is in order to reduce the number of deaths recorded as a result of water borne diseases as well as scarce resources spent on medical care in Kano, Nigeria. This project will be in line with the SDGs focus on making available clean water to more of the developing world.

AIM

To improve the lives of the Sumaila people through the provision of reliable clean water supply which in turn would reduce the occurrence of diseases and illnesses that are water borne occur.
To enable the people to live healthier lives by educating them on best sanitation and hygiene practices which reduce the occurrence of illnesses amongst them.

OBJECTIVES

  • To reduce the dependence of the community on external authorities for needs that are so basic to their existence like potable water supply
  • To encourage sanitary living through simple activities as washing the hands with soap and water after using the toilet.
  • To also improve hygiene culture through campaigns on drinking water daily, hygienic water storage and washing of hands with soap and water before eating and also disposing of refuse in a hygienic manner
